Medical Doctor - Minsk Medical Institute (Belarus) General Information and Work HistoryRaissa has been working as a Counsellor in New Zealand since 2008. She originally trained and qualified as a Medical Doctor, Psychiatrist, and Psychotherapist in Belarus. One of her early professional experiences was serving as a Psychotherapist in a state hospital, providing care for individuals affected by the Chernobyl disaster.
After relocating to New Zealand in 1999, Raissa pursued further study in Psychology at Massey University and later completed a Bachelor's degree in Alcohol and Drug Studies at WELTEC. This led to her specialization as a Dual Diagnosis Clinician, working with individuals experiencing co-existing mental health and addiction issues. Areas of InterestRaissa works with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, personality disorders, and substance dependence. She primarily uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), complemented by Gestalt Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT). As a certified EMDR practitioner, she supports clients in resolving emotional distress tied to traumatic memories. Her therapeutic approach also integrates mindfulness and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)-based relaxation strategies.
Raissa has a particular interest in the treatment of anxiety, depression and trauma, placing high importance on supporting a high level of confidence and self-esteem. She also has extensive experience in couples therapy, using a systemic approach to help partners move through crisis and rediscover connection. Raissa fosters a safe and accepting environment to ensure her clients can explore their thoughts and feelings freely. |
